Meet Sally
I am a University of Pittsburgh Sport Science MS graduate with seven years of experience conducting large-scale health and performance research trials, looking to transition into the healthcare, public health, and science industries. A recipient of the Loughborough University SSEHS Dean’s Award for Excellence in Placements and the LSU Welfare and Diversity Unsung Hero Award, I pair rigorous scientific research skills with a deeply collaborative, community-focused approach.

Work Experience
Graduate Student Researcher, Aug 2024 - June 2025
Neuromuscular Research Laboratory, University of Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA.
Executed comprehensive physiological assessment (DXA, HR-pQCT, VO₂ max, resting metabolic rate, hydration, IMTP and CMJ) and optimised biosample handling for 30 subjects to examine resilience to HPG axis suppression through multi-stressor training.
Streamlined management of data for 200 subjects, minimizing errors and supporting data analysis to assess the relationship between training volume and performance outcomes and hormonal and bone adaptations to physical training interventions.
Analysed 60 HR-pQCT scans to quantify bone adaptations over a physical training intervention.
Scientific Support Officer and Research Assistant, Aug 2019 - Aug 2024
Army Health and Performance Research, Ministry of Defence, Andover, UK.
Delivered evidence-based recommendations to optimize the health and performance of women in ground close combat roles and presented key findings to over 300 academic and military stakeholders.
Facilitated over 20 scientific reviews as the Army Scientific Assessment Committee Secretary.
Engaged with key stakeholders to deliver data collection through, coordinating consumable inventories, SOPs, ethics and data protection documents and managing biosample processing, monitoring compliance and menstruation for 50+ participants.
Developed physiological testing skills (phlebotomy, ultrasound, isokinetic strength), questionnaire delivery and knowledge of hormonal contraceptives to assess their impact on health and performance.
Applied infection control polices to 200+ biological samples daily to evaluate COVID-19 detection.
Validated buccal swabs as a non-invasive testing method, for sickle cell trait, in 2,000 British Army personnel leading to its implementation at applicant medical screening.
Designed and implemented cost-effective nutrition plans to evaluate the impact of calcium supplementation on bone metabolism following load carriage.
Junior Scientific Support Officer, Sept 2017 - Aug 2018
Women in Ground Close Combat Research Team, Ministry of Defence, Andover, UK.
Produced a comprehensive and methodical literature review on return to exercise postpartum informing the development of a postpartum exercise intervention study.
Assessed 200 participants endocrine function and mobility through physiological and dietary assessment.
Voluntary Experience
Disability Officer, Oct 2018 - June 2019, Welfare and Diversity, Loughborough Students Union.
Directed five volunteers in planning and executing campaigns and events to support disabled students and promote disability awareness on campus.
Coordinated the rebranding and restructuring of the disability support network leveraging a questionnaire to enhance student engagement.
Spearheaded an inclusive sport initiative and introductory sign-language course, enhancing sports accessibility and engagement and social cohesion between Deaf and hearing students.
Delivered disability awareness training to seven university clubs and staff groups promoting inclusivity and improving understanding across the university.
